Inman park festival happening this weekend

inman-park-festival.jpgAs every year, the Inman festival is coming up during full weekend this April. Inman Park is bringing up a neighborhood festival widely regarded as Atlanta’s most spirited and eclectic festival. The 37th Annual Inman Park Spring Festival and Tour of Homes will take place Saturday and Sunday, April 26-27, 2008

Tour of Homes will be held April 25 - 27 offering food, music, a street market, parade and a home tour that includes everything from Victorian-era treasures to converted industrial spaces. While the admission to all festival events is free, except the Tour of Homes, which is $20. This year’s festival hours are Friday, April 25, from noon to 4 p.m. for the home tour only; Saturday, April 26, from noon to 8:30 p.m. with the parade at 2 p.m.; and Sunday, April 27, from noon to 6 p.m.

A list of highlights:

• Street Market: Everything from antique furniture to handcrafted wares. A juried arts and crafts show will feature more than 100 artists displaying a wide variety of sculpture, photos, paintings and mixed-media.

• The Parade: The city’s quirkiest and most colorful parade, led by the Inman Park Butterfly, followed by floats, bands, art cars, politicians, drill teams, Kelly’s Seed and Feed Marching Abominables, clowns, jugglers, and many more, closed by the Inman Park Trash Queen, riding aloft his\her royal throne.

• Live Entertainment: Rock‘n‘roll, swing, jazz, folk, bluegrass and world music will be featured on the festival stages. See the accompanying calendar for the line up of events.

• Inman Park Dance Festival: A festival of classical and contemporary dance at the Trolley Barn on Edgewood Avenue.

• Children’s Activities Area: Pony rides, moonwalk, face painting and more.

Please note that parking will be very limited and visitors are encouraged to take MARTA to the Inman Park station or park at City Hall East on Ponce de Leon Avenue and take a shuttle bus that will run regularly. No pets will be allowed at the festival.

Sponsored by the Inman Park Neighborhood Association (IPNA), the nonprofit association established in the early 1970s to raise funds for local schools, theaters, security, and to contribute to the development of Atlanta’s Freedom Park, along with neighborhood improvement and beautification projects.
