Sharon Tate case - Police suspects more victims of Charles Manson
May 10, 2008
BBC Reports that US police are to carry out excavation work at a Californian ranch to search for more possible victims of notorious mass murderer, Charles Manson, who killed Sharon Tate. They believe more bodies may be buried at the ranch in the Death Valley national park where Manson and his followers hid after the killings.
Manson was convicted in 1969 of killing seven people, including the actress Sharon Tate, who was pregnant. She was married at the time to the film director, Roman Polanski. Initial surveys of the remote ranch some 200 miles (320 km) north of Los Angeles in February proved inconclusive.
“I believe the only way to determine once and for all whether there are bodies buried at Barker Ranch from the time of the Manson family is to proceed with limited excavation in a very few areas,” said Inyo County Sheriff Bill Lutze.
The four-day excavation is due to start on 20 May. Manson and the four of his followers convicted of the spree of murders have reportedly claimed more victims are buried at the ranch. Manson, 73, is serving a life sentence.
Meanwhile, Samantha Geimer gets placed back into the national spotlight after a documentary on director Roman Polanski re-examines his rape charges. Polanski committed the crime nine years after his wife Sharon Tate was killed by Charles Manson in his infamous murder spree. Tate, who was eight months pregnant, and four other friends were brutally murdered. Tate was stabbed 18 times.
Director Marina Zenovich has spent five years tracing every aspect of the case for Roman Polanski: Wanted and Desired. The film was screened in New York on Monday and will be televised in the U.S. next month. HBO bought the film for America, and the Weinstein Company bought international distribution rights.
Geimer, now 45, is married with three kids and lives in Hawaii with her family.
Another source reported that Susan Atkins, who took part in the bloody 1969 Tate-LaBianca murders as a member of the Charles Manson Family and shrugged off actress Sharon Tate’s plea to save her unborn baby, has been hospitalized for more than a month with an undisclosed illness, a state prison spokeswoman confirmed Monday.
Atkins, who will be 60 on May 7, has been in stable condition since going to a hospital March 18. Her location was described as “in the community” by Terry Thornton, a spokeswoman for the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation.
It would be interesting to mention about Polanski and Sharon Tate. This was one of the great Hollywood sex scandals: The brooding but brilliant movie director Roman Polanski was charged with raping a 13-year-old girl in the Los Angeles home of actor Jack Nicholson.
In the wake of his trial - and Polanski’s admission of guilt to one charge of unlawful intercourse - the director has never revealed the true details of what happened on that fateful afternoon in 1977.
